My Nose Job experience in Mexico with TopPlasticSurgeonsMexico. Was it Worth It?

Back in August 2019 by 22, I did my nose job in Mexico. I wanted to post my overall experience now that it’s one year out.
I've been researching surgeons in Mexico City and Tijuana for a few months and used RealSelf as a resource, but choosing the right surgeon was not so easy. It took me a long time to make a decision because I loved to read patient reviews (although I clearly know that patient reviews never tell the whole story) and I looked at hundreds (maybe thousands) of before and after pictures. It has become a bit of an obsession, but hey..
Eventually I was mostly charmed by Dr. Bernardo Rendon at TopPlasticSurgeonsMexico Center because he had great examples of nose job and a friend of mine had previously worked with this center.
"I was alarmed that a surgeon who I’d never even met was going to change my face forever."
The contact with TopPlasticSurgeonsMexico was over the phone, with Sandra and then David. Initially, I was alarmed that a surgeon who I’d never even met was going to change my face forever. But I also knew that my surgeon had years of experience and meeting me once before surgery wasn’t going to change his ability to do his job.
Once I firmly made the decision to move ahead with the rhinoplasty in Mexico City, I told my family!! With five siblings, there's never a shortage of opinions, but they were all very supportive with the decision I took to have my procedure done in Mexico. Nose jobs are pricey in Los Angeles, with the average cost coming in at around $10,000 to $15,000 ... in Mexico City I paid $2,500. So I knew that if I wanted to go through with the procedure, now was the time.

I contacted the center on July 2019,, after that, everything happened quickly. Sandra told me they had an opening in 3 weeks, so I booked it. I arrived at Mexico City the first week of August.
When I met Dr. Bernardo for the first time he set me at ease, he was professional and approachable.. We started out talking casually what I liked and disliked about it about my nose. He inspected the inside of my nose and the thickness of my skin, he also measured the width of my nose, then he took a bunch of pictures from different angles to show me a revised image of what my nose could look like with surgery. I was happy because it was more or less the results I expected but I was concerned with the slight bump on my nose and wanted to make a few small tweaks to get my dream nose.
He understood all my concerns and he explained me how he will shave down the bump and he will remove some cartilage from the tip so it can get a slightly turned up, creating a more feminine nose. Due to the complexity of my surgery, he decided to perform an open rhinoplasty since he will be reworking my entire nose — refining not just the bridge but the tip as well.. and he needed to break my nose, reduce the cartilage, refine my tip…a hard work but I knew I was in good hands and that my result would be subtle and not overly "done".

We set a date for my surgery, the next day. The morning of my surgery I was definitely feeling nervous. I was there alone! This was without a doubt the most nerve-racking part of the entire experience. Even though this was a fairly routine elective procedure, there was still something unsettling about not having someone of my family or a friend by my side.
A nurse led me into the OR, and the last thing I remember before going under was this feeling of deep gratitude and thanking the medical staff there for playing a part in helping me feel better about myself.
"The morning of my surgery I was definitely feeling nervous. I was there alone!"
The surgery took about two hours. The worst part of recovery for me was the anesthesia. I awoke from surgery with a splint on my nose and a gauze under my nose to catch the blood....feeling just as overwhelmed and then crying happy tears. But I also remember I felt so ill and took almost a day for me to feel like a functioning human again. I blame the drugs...in part, anyway!
The day after my surgery I was back at hotel. I wasn't in much pain but for two days I felt dizzy and nauseated.
I remember I slept a lot I couldn't stay awake for more than two or three hours and I had a headaches for a two or three days following the surgery! But the discomfort never got so bad that I needed Tylenol alone made it manageable. Most of the discomfort after surgery came from the swelling around my eyes and because I couldn't breathe through my nose anymore. I remember I was so disfigured in early recovery that it was difficult for me to process that I had a new nose underneath the splint and bandages but I fully expected this, as my surgeon said it could take one week to ten days for everything to run its course.
My surgery was on a Tuesday and by Thursday I was well enough to answer emails, see movies..with each day that passed, I felt a bit better. At that point, the swelling had dropped to my jaw, the bruises had faded, and I looked fairly sane.

At my first post-op appointment seven days after surgery my bruising and bleeding were minimal, but I did experience some swelling,, my doctor removed the tape on my nose and the stitches from around my nostrils. When Dr. Bernardo handed me the mirror for the big reveal, I almost didn't want to look. But when I did, I literally cried tears of joy. My nose was still swollen and pretty sensitive but I suddenly see my nose was so cute!!! I couldn’t believe this was my new nose!
Nine days after my surgery I was back at home!
Now that a year has passed, I can see how refined the tip of my nose is and it’s no longer sensitive at all. I love my results and I don’t regret a single thing about my decision. This experience has been life-changing. It takes courage to make a permanent change to one’s body—and a little extra courage to do it overseas but my whole experience in Mexico has been great, I've felt so completely taken care of by my surgeon and have received so much support from topplasticsurgeon´s team. WOW! My nose surgery has been so empowering, it has allowed me to take control of my body image and enhance parts of myself that I already loved. Thank you TopPlasticSurgeonsMexico for giving me a newfound confidence!
